Joei Camarote '23

Philadelphia, PA

Hi! My name is Joei (she/her) and I'm a junior psychology major with a minor in cognitive neuroscience. I'm from South Philly, which is only about a twenty minute subway ride from Temple. Along with being a HATT, I am also the general body meeting coordinator for Temple's chapter of Active Minds, which is a club that focuses on erasing the stigma surrounding mental health. I am also a mentor in Temple's Leadership & Career Program, where I help college students with intellectual disabilities complete their classes. This year, I started interning at Temple's Cognition & Learning Lab as a research assistant. We are researching whether strong spatial skills lead to strong math skills. I chose Temple because of our awesome psychology department and the friendly-vibes I felt from the other students when I was visiting. It has lived up to all my expectations, and I can’t imagine being anywhere else! I especially love being a part of this smaller community (the honors program!) inside of a larger community (Temple!). On campus, I spend a lot of my free time hanging out with my friends on the beach and getting bagels from bagel shop (best bagels on campus). Even though I was born in Philly, it still feels like there is so much in the city that I haven't seen. I love hanging out in center city, trying new foods, and finding new places to explore. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions :)
