Zach grew up in rural Southern Indiana understanding life through the lens of nature, building numerous forts among pine trees and riding 4-wheelers through corn fields. He received a full-tuition Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship to attend Indiana University in Bloomington, where he received a BFA in Painting and a BA in Art History. Through IU’s Painting Department, he traveled to Florence, Italy to study drawing and Italian Renaissance art history. After graduating from college, Zach wanted to take some time to figure out his next step in life. This led him to Ireland, where he lived and worked waiting tables, helping design the Dublin Urban Outfitters store, and answering phones at a preemie baby ward.
After his Irish experience, Zach moved to Philadelphia to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), the nation’s oldest fine arts school and museum. He graduated in 2009 with a Master of Fine Arts degree and continues to paint and show his work both locally and nationally. He stuck around PAFA and worked as the Associate Director of Admissions, traveling and recruiting young art students before joining the Honors team at Temple.
Zach has been working in Honors since 2013, and loves his interactions with Honors students. In 2016, he won Outstanding New Advisor at Temple, the Region 2 NACADA Excellence in Advising, Primary Role, and the NACADA Global Outstanding Advisor Primary Category. Zach and his family live tucked in the woods on the Wissahickon Park in northwest Philly.
